As a new and all too wet-behind-the-ears blogger, I was contacted by an excited and motivated 3rd party who told me a story that, if untrue, was libelous in the extreme. I posted a sanitized tease here, ala Herb Caen, not giving names or other identifying info.
This person urged me to be more specific, and swore that the story was true and would be coming out in the next few weeks; and also shared & urged me to print a second scurrilous story.

Now I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I did have enough sense - and consideration for the privacy of the individuals mentioned - not to print more.

As time has passed and I've grown a little less naive, I've wondered about these incidents, and have tried, multiple times, to contact the person to ask just what had been going on & why the pressure on *me* to print them - but without success.

Needless to say, if something like this were to happen today, I'd have *no* interest.; 7/14/2010 11:43 AM
