Mishaps mark John McCain's record as naval aviator

Does everyone already know about this? It was news to me.

LA Times article; Rolling Stone ("disturbing record of recklessness and dishonesty").

I was not at all impressed with his efforts to claim his plane was the one hit by the wayward rocket on the deck of the Forrestal, when the pilots who's, sitting next to John's was killed in the incident. I'll bet that family was fuming mad. Some of the other incidents may b eattributed to faulty aircraft, bad luck.

I think these campaigns put far too much into the candidates' personal lives and what's in their pasts, focusing much too little on the real issues. At least the Republicans have it right by saying that the race is about image and not what's really important to the country. No one wants to hear about US foreign policy or the economy, but everyone wants to hear about whether or not Obama is a Muslim or what McCain did 20 years ago. Sad thing, isn't it?

Julia (and Keachie), I think this is a prime case for employing the Clinton Test - how would it affect your perceptions if it had been Obama crashing jets and behaving like an insufferable boor, and McCain being on the same board as a former domestic terrorist?

Anyone who values fairness should envision how they'd react to the mirror image situation.
